The "2018 Workshop on NPP Decommissioning Technology" organized by the AEC was hold from September 11 to 12, 2018 with invited experts from the Association for Nuclear Decommissioning Study (ANDES) of Japan to share their experiences and information on decommissioning. There were approximately 110 participants from AEC, licensee, associations and other interested stakeholders attended this workshop. The Japanese experts also met with the AEC Deputy Minister Mr. Chiou to exchange information and personal opinions on the nuclear power plant (NPP) decommissioning issues.
The topics of workshop included current status and regulations of nuclear power plant decommissioning in Japan, radiation characterization survey, risk evaluation, decontamination and dismantling, public involvement etc. The AEC also shared the regulatory activities of NPP decommissioning in Taiwan during the workshop.
The Chinshan nuclear power plant will be the first NPP transiting to decommissioning stage at the end of 2018. To address the potential issues on safety-related regulations, the AEC would keep sharing experiences with the leading authorities and making adjustment accordingly.
